What is Vesper Hymns? Is it just a hymn sing?

Vesper Hymns, meaning 'evening' hymns, is an opportunity for us to gather and share in one of the things that El Camino does best, sing. It is an invitation into the singing of great hymns that the church has sung for hundreds of years, the hymns you know and love. You may know, however, that the singing of psalms and hymns has fallen on hard times. Rare is the church that uses hymnals and piano only. But rather than follow the trend, we know the value of old hymns that express the words and teachings of Scripture in such memorable ways. So a night of Vesper Hymns is not just any old hymn sing, it is an opportunity to share this treasure with one another and with our neighbors. There are many Christians today, whether they realize it or not, who long to feel connected to the historic Christian faith and the singing of hymns is one of the ways we can help them find that foundation worth standing upon.
The Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossians, 'Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.' Vesper Hymns, albeit on a Friday night, is a way in which the word of Christ might grow deeper in us and an opportunity to share that word of Christ with our neighbors.
So, plan to join us. Come be a part of the choir! We'll gather at 6:15pm to share refreshments and start singing at about 7pm. Feel free to invite family, friends, neighbors, and strangers. Dress warmly, as we'll be outside. Oh come, let us sing to the LORD. Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
